YouTube in the classroom : discussion between parent and teacher

This week Serena Lowry and I tested out what a conversation regarding technology being used in the classroom, between a concerned parent (Serena) and a teacher (me) would look like. In our situation, Serena plays the role of Blake’s mom who is messaging his teacher Miss George (me) to discuss the concerns she has in regards to her son using YouTube to do a research project.

Take a look at how our conversation played out!

  1. Hi Brooke,
My partner and I also debated using YouTube in the classroom between a parent and a teacher. It is so interesting that we came up with different ideas on how the parent could be uncomfortable with their child using this resource in the classroom. For example, we did not discuss the potential for students to watch unreliable and false information. Thanks for adding more ideas that I did not really consider in my own post!

  2. Brooke.
Great discussion, you addressed all the concerns that the parent had. you remained professional and had all the right answers. I feel that there is a lot of concerns about using YouTube in the classroom and the only way to put these concerns to rest is to address the concerns and you have done that.
    Well done.
